Os alimentos cultivados organicamente contribuem para água limpa, para o meio ambiente, a proteção do clima e a conservação das espécies. Os fertilizantes minerais usados nos métodos agrícolas convencionais acabam facilmente nas águas subterrâneas, pois são bem solúveis em água. A agricultura industrial causa erosão do solo. A criação de húmus como com agricultura orgânica melhora a qualidade do solo, armazena quantidades consideráveis de carbono reduzindo o CO2 no ar e protege melhor contra inundações e águas altas. A agricultura orgânica pode funcionar em grande parte sem pesticidas venenosos devido à rotação de culturas, culturas com semente misturado e a evitação de grandes monocoluturas. O artigo do Guardian critica duramente os altos subsídios à produção de carne, que dependem de grandes quantidades de soja importada, que são geneticamente modificados a maior parte e que causam o desmatamento de grandes áreas de florestas virgens. Um quilo de carne requer dez vezes mais terra do que produtos vegetais. O consumidor não paga os custos reais das grandes quantidades de carne industrializada. As enormes quantidades de estrume da pecuária industrial acabam nas águas subterrâneas da Europa.
Organically farmed foodstuffs contribute to water, environmental, climate protection and species conservation. Mineral fertilizers as used with conventional farming methods end up easily in the ground water as they are well soluble in water. Industrial farming causes erosion of the soil. Creation of humus by organic farming improves the quality of the soil, it stores considerable amounts carbon, reduces CO2 in the air and better protects from floods and high water. Organic farming can do largely without poisonous pesticides due to crop rotation, undersown crops and the avoidance of large monocolutures. The article from the Guardian does harshly criticise the high subsidies for meat production relying on huge amounts of imported soy crops which are predominantly genetically manipulated and which cause the clearance of large areas of primeval forests. One pound of meat requires ten times more land than vegetable products. The consumer does not pay the true costs of the large amounts of industrially farmed meat. The huge amounts of manure from industrial livestock farming end up in the ground water of Europe.
