The fate of at least 20 groups of isolated and uncontacted indigenous peoples in Peru known as the PIACI hangs in the balance. As CoViD-19 ravages Peru, their lack of immunity to foreign diseases and lack of access to modern healthcare puts their communities at a high risk of being wiped out. Currently the Peruvian Congress is preparing to discuss the amendments to Law 28736 which could protect their lands from oil, mining and industrial agriculture corporate interests.

This plastic has very attractive sustainability credentials because it uses no fossil fuels, and can be recycled – but would also degrade in nature much faster than normal plastics do. The renewable chemicals company Avantium has the backing of Coca-Cola and Danone.
