On April the 15^th EU governments have started trade negotiations with the USA. They take place in opposition to the position of the European Parliament which would make the Climate Convention of Paris a precondition for trade talks. Concessions that have already been made are a tripeling of climate-damaging fracking gas imports and a doubeling of soya imports for agrofuels. The trade negotiations start by pressure from the United States to impose punitive tariffs on European cars and planes. That will make fair negotiations impossible. The US want a trade deal on agriculture, genetic engineering, chemistry and pesticides.

The British oil and gas company Rockhopper sued Italy in May 2017 because Italy had refused to allow for oil drilling in the Adriatic sea. Before the Italian parliament had forbidden all oil and gas activities because of environmental concerns and because of the problem of earthquakes. Rockhopper sues on top of the Energy Charta Treaty (ECT) for indemnification in the amount of 200-300 Million USD. There has been no decision on the issue yet (2019). Although Italy has already left the Energy Charta Treaty (ECT) it can still be obliged to pay. Italy can be sued up to 20 years with hindsight for any investment taken before Italy has exited the ECT (January the 1st of 2016); a 'zombie' clause in the treaty makes this possible.

Plastic pollution is not just a problem for the oceans but als for our soil. Plastic carelessly thrown away with our household compost litters and contaminates our soil in the meanwhile up to a huge extent although this problem is less visible than the littering of our oceans. If you put something into the household compost take care that no stickers or plastic parts like on the stipe of bananas persist on the fruit skin and plant materials. Empty your plastic bag at the bio-waste container (You may put the bag into the residual waste afterwards.) instead of throwing your compost together with the plastic bag into the bio-waste container - a mess still commited by many people. The household compost is used as a fertilizer on fields. Another problem which is not less pervasive in scope is the abraison of car tyres. Car tyres do not only consist of natural caoutchouc but are also made of plastics and smut/carbon black. Unfortunately they do often also contain pollution like heavy metals.
